The Tonor BM-700 microphone kit provides tremendous value for the price – but how does it sound?
The mic itself is a “BM-700” or “BM700” – an electret condenser microphone (which is not the same as a true “condenser” microphone; read more about the differences here) that gets cloned and re-badged by many other companies such as Tonor, Neewer, etc.
Included in the package:
- Scissor Microphone Arm
- Desk Clamp
- Shock Mount
- Flyswatter-style pop filter
- windscreen
- 3.5mm to XLR Cable
- USB sound card
The USB sound card was completely useless to me, but some users have reported improved results on Mac computers.
Including a shock mount and pop filter are huge gains towards producing higher-quality audio for listeners.
The Tonor BM700 sounds surprisingly not terrible, especially for the price. Naturally, it sounds tinny and compressed, but as a “I only have $32 to spend to upgrade my audio” this is a very strong choice, especially considering it comes with a complete kit. The sound won’t compare to a “true” condenser mic or anything costing significantly more money, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a good choice.
It’s worth noting that, generally speaking, this microphone will sound identical to every “BM-700” microphone available for sale, as they are all the same microphone re-labeled by various companies in a factory in China.
